WORLD MANUFACTURING CONGRESS

The purpose of this congress is to bring together manufacturing researchers in academia and members of manufacturing industries to highlight the importance of applied as well as theoretical research. The continuous exchange of scientific and technical information is of particular importance in a time of rapid changes in manufacturing environments around the world. The impact of changing technical sectors, like digital electronics, automation, computer engineering and information technology, as well as the need to protect the environment is influencing the basic philosophies of manufacturing. The Congress, which is held every second year, is meant to be a forum for academia and industry to present research results and aid in the transfer of research to practice. WMC 2001 is being held at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester, New York. This is also the home for the National Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery. The Rochester Tool Show will overlap for those interested in viewing or exhibiting the latest manufacturing technologies.

To all WMC2001 registrants:

The local hosting committee at Rochester and the conference organizing committee is sorry to inform you that we have felt it necessary to postpone the World Manufacturing Congress 2001 until the first week in April, 2002. The recent events in New York City and the ramifications for the airline industry made it evident that the chances of running a successful conference at this time is small. Given the need to establish and maintain world-wide collaboration in manufacturing research we felt that a postponement until next Spring was the best alternative.

We are disappointed at the delay and usually try to persist through difficulties of this kind, but look forward to hosting the Congress in Rochester in the Spring.

Immediate questions or concerns may be directed to Nicole Elzebroek, Project Manager WMC 2001, ICSC-NAISO or myself.
